I study how tree populations respond to environmental change, and how demographic processes scale up to biodiversity, restoration, and species range limits.

Climate sensitivity

Trait-structured tree growth and longevity responses to climate

Using millions of multi-census tree records across North American forests, this project estimates how growth and life expectancy vary across temperature, precipitation, and atmospheric aridity gradients. It tests whether life-history baselines, functional traits, thermal niche breadth, and phylogeny predict demographic vulnerability to climate.

Fungal context and trait-based tree demography

This project tests how fungal association modifies the links between functional traits, tree growth, and longevity. Using species-level demographic, trait, phylogenetic, and fungal data, it asks whether similar trait strategies lead to different life-history outcomes under contrasting symbiotic nutrient economies.
